Backrooms

A24 is looking to nab a huge hit in the form of Backrooms, projected to make something between $40-50 million during its opening weekend. The horror movie, based on a boundary-pushing YouTube series, was directed by 19-year-old Kane Parsons, the creator of the original Backrooms, an age almost unprecedented for helming a project like this.

Now, reviews are coming for Backrooms, and while decent enough, they are not sky-high like a few other horror entries this year, including the runaway hit from just two weeks ago, Obsession, which is on its way to make 100x its budget amidst 95% and 94% critic and audience Rotten Tomatoes scores.

Backrooms, in contrast, has a 78% Rotten Tomatoes score right now with three dozen reviews in. How does that stack up against the other horror offerings of the year?

The premise:

A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom.

Going a little deeper, the YouTube series follows people going through these passageways and ending up in an endless series of mostly empty rooms, a maze that goes on forever, and they are often stalked by unknown monstrous creatures. It turned into an elaborate world with loads of lore, and the original video has 78 million views. All the other videos added together take that well over 100 million. So, you have part of the reason this may be about to make a lot of money.

I would not expect Backrooms to have the sort of insane trajectory that Obsession has had, but there's really no point comparing it, or any other horror movie, to that

phenomenon, which is breaking 25-year-old records with things like a 39% increase in box office between weekends. But Backrooms, also with a quite low budget, it appears like it's going to be a big success in its own right, and that's all that really.

Backrooms is available to watch in theatres right now

Obsession

Obsession

Is the Horror Movie Everyone Will Be Talking About This Year

If you’re searching for a horror movie that goes beyond cheap jump scares and delivers something deeply disturbing, emotional, and unforgettable, then Obsession deserves a spot at the top of your watchlist. Directed by rising filmmaker Curry Barker, the film has quickly become one of the breakout horror sensations currently playing in theaters.

Released by  Focus Features, Obsession blends psychological terror, supernatural suspense, and emotional tragedy into a chilling modern horror experience that audiences can’t stop talking about.

The story follows Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a lonely music store employee secretly in love with his longtime best friend Nikki, portrayed by Inde Navarrette. When Bear discovers a mysterious object known as the “One Wish Willow,” he makes a desperate wish for Nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world.

At first, the wish seems perfect.

But things quickly spiral into terror.

Nikki’s affection transforms into something obsessive, violent, and horrifying, forcing Bear to confront the terrifying consequences of trying to control another person’s emotions. What begins as a supernatural romance soon becomes a nightmare fueled by manipulation, desire, and psychological collapse.

Unlike many modern horror films that rely heavily on gore alone, Obsession succeeds because of its atmosphere, tension, and emotional weight. Critics and audiences alike have praised the film for its originality, disturbing themes, and unforgettable performances  especially Navarrette’s transformation from sweet best friend to terrifying force of obsession.

The movie has already earned strong reactions online, with horror fans calling it one of the best horror releases of 2026. Reddit discussions are filled with viewers describing the film as “stressful,” “disturbing,” and “impossible to stop thinking about.”

Some viewers have even compared its emotional discomfort and psychological dread to modern horror classics like Hereditary and It Follows.

A Breakout Success

Made on a relatively small budget, Obsession has become a major surprise hit at the box office, proving that original horror still has massive power with audiences. The film reportedly earned over $75 million worldwide, an incredible achievement for an independent-style psychological horror movie.

The success of the film has also catapulted director Curry Barker into the spotlight, with reports confirming he is now attached to future major horror projects.

If you enjoy horror movies that stay with you long after the credits roll, Obsession is absolutely worth seeing in theaters. It’s tense, emotionally unsettling, visually creepy, and filled with moments that will leave audiences shocked and uncomfortable in the best possible way.

This isn’t just another horror movie.

It’s a dark exploration of love, control, loneliness, and the terrifying consequences of getting exactly what you wished for.

Obsession is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Scary Movie 6

It’s been 26 years since Scary movie first graced our screens, which is crazy I was 13 !!!

It was written by Marlon and Shawn Wayans who also starred in all the movies alongside Anna Faris, Regina Hall and a starred studded cast. Each movie references popular Horror movies like scream, I know what you did last summer ect and has grossed £900 million worldwide.

It’s coined iconic terms like grab my strong hand and you will never look at mash potatoes the same way ever again !!

With the release of Scary Movie 6 on June 5th (yes I already have my tickets) Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer, Shorty, Ray, Cindy and Brenda find themselves targeted by another mad slasher.

The original cast reprise there roles, as they parody recent horror movies like, Halloween, Longlegs, Get out, weapons and Ofcoarse Scream 7 because it’s not Scary movie without a certain masked killer.

Reviews for Scary Movie 6 are highly mixed. Fans of the original Wayans brothers' era praise the R-rated return of the classic Core Four and its chaotic parodies of modern horror hits However, critics argue the humor is heavily dated and the attempts to tackle modern "cancel culture" feel lazy or forced.

Personally it’s nostalgic, it’s fun and it’s just a movie. I really can’t wait it’s the kind of movie you go to see just to have a good time you can’t view it as good or bad and if your going to watch it as a younger person who is experiencing Scary Movie for the first time just take it a surface level it’s not that deep. They are piss take movies, they are produced to mock everything the left the right and everything in between and if you can’t just enjoy the unity then this franchise as a whole isn’t for you

Scary Movie 6 releases in Cinemas Worldwide, if love to hear your opinions
